This is a project, started in 2008, of the Romanian FAST charity, working in the Brasov area of central Romania. The Cleaford Christian Trust (Charity Reg: 1039861) are FAST’s UK partners in this, and other, projects.
The sponsored children come from very poor families, living in disadvantaged rural areas near Brasov, such as Garcin, Tarlungeni, and Zizin. Often there are 6-10 children all living in a house with only one room, without running water or electricity.
The monthly gift from a sponsor will be used mainly for the child's educational development as soon as they become registered at school, at the age of 7. Selection of children will be done with the help of teachers in the village and through personal visits at their homes.
The child will be sponsored for one year, after which the local school will fully take over their educational needs. Each year there are almost 200 children registering at school in the village and we want to give all children a chance to be sponsored for at least one year. We at FAST will continue to keep in touch with the school and will provide material needs to make it easier for the children to remain in school.
-Amount needed for sponsoring a child: 15 Pounds/month (or 20 Euros)
-Commitment required: monthly or quarterly standing orders
-Funds will be administered by the FAST team and cash will not be handed out to the family
-News about the child will be sent regularly through email or post
-Each child will be sponsored for one year
-Age of the sponsored children: 6-7 years old
-Location: Newday Educational Centre Sacele, near Brasov
-Children will enjoy educational activities, a warm meal and nice hot showers
-Additional activities: recreational, outings and learning to play a musical instrument
-The activities will be done after school, starting at 10.30 am
-The sponsorship will be similar to a Scholarship Fee and will benefit the child in the most direct way
-Each child will receive a special birthday gift supported from the Sponsorship money
-If two children from the same family will attend the centre, each child will have his/her own individual sponsor
-The children will benefit from attending the centre's activies not only in school days, but also during the holidays; FAST will organise weekend camps which the sponsored children will be able to attend
-Gift Aid will be claimed for UK donations, so your giving will receive an increase of up to 28% (expected to be 25% from April 2008)
-Donations from UK supporters are handled by our associated charity in the UK, The Cleaford Christian Trust, which enables tax recoveries to be made under the Gift Aid scheme. Please download and complete a Bank Standing Order Form (download here) and, when completed please send it to The Cleaford Christian Trust.
-If you are a UK taxpayer, please also complete a Gift Aid Declaration (download here), which enables us to increase the value of your gift, with no extra cost to you. The Cleaford Christian Trust will handle the regular transfer of your funds to us here in Romania, with no additional fees.
